Even though you’re moving, you probably wish you could keep some of the things the way they are, such as your TV, media center, and related electronics. Whether it’s HDMI cables for gaming consoles or all of your desktop computer’s wires, you want to be as organized as possible when it comes to moving your electronics and wires.
Otherwise, you may lose something in the process. Edmonton Movers www.matco.ca also have seen packing issues from loose toner cartridges in printers. To avoid all of that, we’ve come up with this handy list for moving electronics.

Make a List and Check It Twice

The key to moving anything complicated is an inventory. You can make an inventory of your electronics. You should put all your user manuals together in one box. If you have the budget, you can also pick up temporary insurance for more expensive electronics that might get damaged. You can also add tracking to your phones and other electronics like apps like Tile and TrackR.

Avoid These Electronic Packing Mistakes

It may seem innocuous, but did you know that batteries in your remotes may overheat in extreme temperatures? For this reason, take care to remove batteries from your electronics. It’s also a good practice. One client of ours packed a weight scale underneath a bunch of items, wearing out the batteries in the scale.
In addition, you should eject all DVDs and Blu-Rays from your media players. You should remove toner cartridges from any printers. You can secure toner by placing plastic over the opening and store in a large dust-proof bag.

Label Your Cable

Label Your Cable
There are a ton of wires with any electronics, so how do you know if you used the extended HDMI or the short HDMI for your computer displays or TV displays? That’s easy. You can use masking tape or label makers to create labels for different wires. With a fine-tipped pen, you can mark what cables go where. For example, one label might read “HDMI 1 for PlayStation (LR)” which stands for what type of HDMI it is, what electronic it’s for, and where it goes (LR) or living room. You don’t have to be as detailed, of course, but it helps if you have multiple people helping you move.
You can also use small colored stickers to denote what cables go with each electronic.
When you have several power chords, make sure to label what electronic it goes with. Different power ratings won’t work for certain electronics.

Move Your Computer Separately

If you value your computer, then you’ll move it separately than with other items in a moving truck. You’ll need to wrap up all wires, secure your tower if a desktop, or place your laptop in a case.
One thing that you can also do is clean out the inside of your desktop’s tower with an air canister or handheld vacuum. You don’t want to bring that dust with you.
As always, make sure that your computer is cushioned and not moving when you transport it to the new location. You don’t want any of those fragile components shaking around!
